On Wednesday it’s been 15 year old journey of the MMTS services in the city. The brand new 12 coach’s train is slowly beginning to replace the age old nine coach trains. The boosting of the suburban rail transport sector in the capital, South Central Railway (SCR) introduced the two 12 coach MMTS trains on Wednesday.
The first one chugging out of the Secunderabad Railway Station towards Falaknuma at 4.30 am. apart from the glossy looks, the new trains looks colourful patterned and also have an enhanced seating capacity of 1,150 and standing capacity of 4,000. The other facilities includes CCTV Cameras in women coaches and LED display boards that shows the direction, destination and approaching the station details.
The 12 coaches’ train will be added to the service from today. It is planned to introduce more number of new rakes in a phased manner. The argument of all existing MMTS services with three additional coaches, enabling all services run with 12 car coach instead of at present nine coach services, said the officials.
The MMTS local services train journey was launched by the Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani on August 9, 2003. The six coach MMTS trains were registered 48 trips a day by carrying over 12,000 passengers on the Secunderabad – Lingampally route which is 23 Km and Hyderabad- Lingampally (24km) stretch that has evolved in 12 coach trains by operating 121 trips a day.
According to the officials the launch of Hyderabad Metro Services in the city has not affected the popularity and patronage of the MMTS services, by enabling passengers to travel to different parts of the city by spending Rs 5 or Rs 10 per ticket.
